Photography Beginner's guide

One of the most difficult issues for most new photographers is determining where to begin. Newer cameras have a multitude of options, and terms like ambient light, white balance, bokeh, and depth of field used by professional photographers might be bewildering to newcomers. You probably have a good eye and a decent notion of how your photos should look, but they aren't turning out the way you want them to (or the way you envisioned they would).

The basic terminologies in photography include:

  1. Aperture: the size of the lens opening that controls the amount of light entering the camera
  2. Shutter speed: the length of time that the camera's shutter is open to expose the sensor to light
  3. ISO: the sensitivity of the camera's sensor to light
  4. Focal length: the distance between the lens and the sensor, which determines the magnification and field of view
  5. Depth of field: the range of distances in a photograph that appears to be in sharp focus
  6. White balance: the process of adjusting the colors in a photograph to accurately represent the colors of the scene
  7. Resolution: the number of pixels in an image, which determines the detail and sharpness of the photograph
  8. Composition: the arrangement of elements in a photograph to create a visually pleasing image.
